A small act of kindness in a supermarket has brightened thousands of moods.
In a store in Clarksdale, Mississippi US, an elderly man of a nervous disposition was buying groceries, but struggling with his change.
Instead of sighing, huffing, or just generally being rushy and unwelcoming, the shop assistant quietly and patiently helped the man out, sorting the money alongside him.
This is a small, seemingly insignificant deed, but it warmed the heart of Spring Bowlin, who snapped a photo of the scene and shared it on Facebook. Thousands have shared the image.
“This gentleman’s items were scanned and he was given the total,” wrote Spring.
“He looks apologetically back at me and starts taking handfuls of change out of his pockets,’ she writes.
“He miscounts and starts to get flustered. Gives me a muttered, ‘I’m so sorry.’ His hands and voice are shaking.
“This beautiful cashier takes his hands and dumps all the change on the counter and says, ‘This is not a problem, honey. We will do this together’.”
The elderly man continued to apologise to Spring and the cashier, evidently flustered by the goings on. But both reassured him that he could take his time.
Spring added: “They get his transaction handled and he shuffles away. I looked at this wonderful woman and said, ‘Thank-you for being so patient with him’.”
Spring said that she replied: “You shouldn’t have to thank me, baby. What’s wrong with our world is we’ve forgotten how to love one another.”
Which is sadly true a lot of the time.
